Recently, Vogue released its top choices for the Best City in the World, and now the magazine has released the Best Places to Travel to in 2023. In order to find out which places were best, they asked a panel of hospitality experts to help. Read on to find out more about the top six destinations recommended by Vogue to visit in 2023.
1. Guatemala, Latin America
Guatemala comes out tops for its magnificent natural beauty and is also known for its rich culture. However, it offers this without the crowds of travelers that other Latin American countries attract. Here, visitors can appreciate their surroundings while connecting with its people and delicious cuisine. Meanwhile, as noted by Tom Marchant, co-founder of Black Tomato it also offers the newly-opened luxurious Villa Bokeh.
2. Yukon Territory & Northwest Territories, Canada
Next in line is Canada’s Northwest Territories and the Yukon, an off-the-beaten-track and largely undiscovered destination. In fact, the Northwest Territories have plenty of wildlife, Indigenous-owned lodging offers and, depending on the season, the glorious Northern Lights. Meanwhile, the Yukon offers a rich culture and many historic landmarks set in beautiful landscapes.
3. The Arctic Region – Iceland, Greenland
In recent years, adventure travelers have flocked to Antarctica, but now, the Arctic region is getting its turn. Visiting Iceland and Greenland allows travelers to get away from the crowds. According to Misty Belles of Virtuoso, here visitors can experience truly unspoiled landscapes, lit up by the amazing Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
4. Málaga, Spain
Málaga is a major city on the Costa del Sol, but it is also a popular province of Andalucía, including its beach resorts. According to Catherine Powell of Airbnb, more guests searched their website for Málaga in 2023 than any other city in the world. Moreover, the Costa del Sol’s capital is a lively cultural hub with many excellent museums. Among these is the Pompidou Center, a modern art gallery housed in a multi-colored glass cube in the city’s port (see the above photo, near the bottom left). Another is the amazing Automobile Museum with its many classic cars. Meanwhile, the street art scene is growing, with colorful murals in most neighborhoods.
5. Benguerra Island, Mozambique
Benguerra is one of five islands in Mozambique’s Bazaruto archipelago, known for its idyllic beaches and teeming marine life. Meanwhile, Benguerra, the second largest island, is becoming a major tropical getaway. As for where to stay, options include the Kisawa Sanctuary or andBeyond Benguerra Island. Whichever they choose, visitors can enjoy a truly remote getaway with empty beaches stretching for miles. Alternatively, a ride on a dhow, the traditional African fishing boat takes visitors out to sea where dolphins and even the rare gugong (sea cow) can often be spotted.
6. Basilicata, Italy
For travelers who have already visited popular areas like Puglia and Sicily, there is another southern Italy destination waiting to be explored. In fact, Basilicata is an up-and-coming destination, with its winding hilltop streets, ancient caves and the fascinating Baroque churches of Matera. Moreover, this unspoiled Italian location boasts idyllic beaches, delicious fresh seafood and interesting history to delve into.
